About me

My name is Sveta Van Wyk and I started my professional career as an artist to connect with people through art.

As a young girl, growing up in a Soviet Union, I taught myself to draw using pencils, often doodling on whatever paper I could find, sometimes even on my parents' work documents. As a teen, I became interested in portraits, copying photos from magazines, using #2 pencils.

As a young adult, I pursued my dream of becoming an artist, immigrating to Iowa, where I met my husband Jon. I studied art at Iowa State University, discovering passion for painting and calligraphy. After graduating with Bachelors of Fine Art, I continued to paint and create art, starting a painting business in 2002.

In 2013, I received the Best of Show award at Iowa State Fair, for a painting of my daughter, titled "Daydream".  In 2015, I won the first place in Ottumwa Baconfest Art competition with a painting of Kevin Bacon holding a piece of bacon on a fork. In 2016, I received an Honorable Mention for my oil painting "So God made a farmer".

I live and work in Sully, Iowa, a small town of 900, with beautiful views of farmland, gorgeous sunsets, and a close-knit community.

I teach painting and crafting workshops as well as private art parties at Van Wijk Winery in Sully and at The Wijn House in Pella. I accept fine art commissions, reclaimed wood and calligraphy projects.
